Electrician Skills Assessment

Get Assessed. Get Licensed. Get to Australia.

Are You a UK Electrician Ready to Work in Australia?

Before you can secure a job, get licensed, or even apply for some visas—you must complete a Skills Assessment. It’s mandatory for all UK-qualified electricians planning to work in Australia, and it’s the first official step on your migration and licensing journey.

At Electrician Australia, we help UK Electricians get assessed, licensed, and working across Australia—with a 100% Skills Assessment success rate to date.

What is a Skills Assessment?

It’s a government-mandated process that compares your UK qualifications and hands-on experience with Australia’s standards under the Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.

Conducted via Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) and an approved RTO, your Skills Assessment includes:

  • Documented proof of experience
  • Technical interview
  • Competency review
  • Alignment to AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules

Once completed successfully, you’ll receive your Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR)—which unlocks your Provisional Electrical License, GAP Training, and visa eligibility.

Why Use Electrician Australia?

Because we make it easy—and we go beyond just assessment. We know what licensed employers, training bodies, and immigration authorities need—because we do this every day, exclusively for UK Qualified Electricians.

How It Works

  • Your Own Secure Portal: Eligible applicants receive a private login to our document upload portal—no messy emails or paperwork. We guide you step-by-step.

  • We Move As Fast As You Do: The sooner you get us your documents, the sooner we start your Skills Assessment. In many cases, we can begin within 24–48 hours.

  • We Handle the Rest: Skills Assessment. Visa Application. Employer Matching. Done—for one flat fee. No agents. No delays. No surprises.

FREE Visa Assistance for UK Electricians

For every UK electrician we work with, we also submit free applications for all viable Australian residency visas on your behalf—after your Skills Assessment. These include:

  • Subclass 189 Skilled Independent Visa
  • Subclass 190 State Nominated Visa
  • Subclass 491 Regional Visa
  • 3-Year Working Holiday Visa (if you’re under 35)

We don’t charge any fees for preparing or lodging these visa applications so you can save $000’s and don’t need to hire an expensive Migration Agent.

If you’re invited to apply for permanent residency, it’s entirely up to you whether you want to accept—you’ll have 60 days to decide. Only if you choose to move forward with a Permanent Residency visa for yourself and your family will the Australian government application fees apply. Our visa support is always free.

Why You Can’t Work Without a Positive Skills Assessment

Whether you find a job through Electrician Australia, another recruiter, or secure a position on your own, it’s not legally possible to work as an electrician in Australia without a Positive Skills Assessment. It’s a mandatory government requirement for licensing and visa processing — and in almost every case, employers won’t even consider engaging with you unless you already hold it.

A Positive Skills Assessment results in the awarding of an OTSR (Offshore Technical Skills Record) — a formal document issued by Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) or an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

The OTSR is your gateway to working in the Australian electrical trade. It formally recognises your UK electrical qualifications and experience as equivalent to the Australian Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician — the foundational trade qualification for licensed electricians in Australia.

Once your OTSR is issued, you are eligible to apply for a Provisional Electrical License, which allows you to work under supervision while completing your GAP Training. GAP Training is a structured on-the-job process delivered through an Australian TAFE or registered provider, and includes:

  • Maintaining a supervised work logbook

  • Completing a short course on the Australian Electrical Context, including the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules, local testing and fault-finding protocols, and earthing regulations

  • Demonstrating competency in Australian-specific safety standards and compliance procedures

After completing your GAP Training, you’ll be eligible to apply for your A-Grade Electrical License. This license is what qualifies you to work independently in any state or territory of Australia — whether on construction sites, industrial plants, commercial fit-outs, or residential jobs.

If you’re serious about working as an electrician in Australia, your first and most important step is securing a Positive Skills Assessment.

Without it, you simply won’t be licensed, hired, or allowed to work — no matter who offers you a job, or what visa you are on.
